According to South Korean press outlet The Elec, lithium-ion battery developer and manufacturer Samsung SDI is exploring the possibility of applying the capacity-enhancing technology used in electric vehicles to mobile devices. This method may appear for the first time on the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra, which will be released next year.

Thanks to the “stacking method” mentioned in the report, battery components such as anode and cathode can be stacked more tightly. As a result, higher energy density is achieved. It should be noted that a similar approach is used by competitor LG Energy in automobile batteries.

Battery size will stay the same but capacity will increase

With the use of automotive technology, the size of the battery in the Galaxy S24 Ultra will remain the same, while its capacity can be increased by around 10%. This means that the new flagship may contain a 5,500 mAh battery. Will the stacking method be applicable to mobile devices? We’ll wait and see.

Apart from the increase in battery capacity, it is also said that Samsung’s next flagship will include an all-new zoom camera with variable focal length and variable aperture.
