In 2021, Sony confirmed that it’s partnering with both Firewalk and ProbablyMonsters for its new, original multiplayer game. Today, Sony PlayStation Studios is expanding its partnership by taking Firewalk under its banner.

A new experience for gamers!

While announcing the move on the PlayStation blog, PlayStation Studios President Hermen Hulst wrote:

“Since we announced our publishing partnership with ProbablyMonsters and Firewalk in 2021, we continue to be impressed by the team’s passion for building a modern multiplayer game that connects players in new and innovative ways. “

“The studio shares our passion for creating inspiring worlds based on outstanding gameplay, and we want to continue to invest in their mission. We are excited that Firewalk will bring its technical and creative expertise to PlayStation Studios, helping it grow our live service operations and deliver something truly special for gamers.”

Firewalk Studios is a game studio based in Boston, Massachusetts. There isn’t much information on what Firewalk is actually working on. The studio was founded in 2018 as part of Probably Monsters and is working on a AAA multiplayer game.

Some industry veterans are behind Firewalk Studios, including former Bungie developers Tony Hsu and Ryan Ellis. Also, according to GamesIndustry.biz, this acquisition will likely leave Firewalk from Monsters.

Hsu and Ellis said in their announcement today:

“We’ve brought together some of the most inspiring talent in the industry to deliver awe-inspiring new worlds and experiences filled with amazing core gameplay. The excitement of building something new for gamers has energized our team and partners, and we playtest every day.” Sony states that he is impressed with Firewalk Studios’ creative vision and talent and will benefit from the studio’s creative team for future projects.
