Artificial intelligence song goes viral
Ghostwriter said on TikTok that he used artificial intelligence to create realistic vocal clips that sound like Drake and The Weeknd to create the song. The song emerged with a video that was posted on this platform over the weekend, gaining more than 9 million views in a short time and inspiring thousands of derivative TikTok. By Monday afternoon it had been played hundreds of thousands of times on Spotify and YouTube.
“Heart on My Sleeve”, which quickly went viral for copyright reasons, is no longer available to stream on Spotify. It doesn’t appear on Ghostwriter’s page and when he tries to listen to the song via “Ghostwriter Radio”, a Spotify feature, a pop-up reports that the content is not available. The original videos posted on TikTok by Ghostwriter are also no longer available, but a few of their videos are still online, along with thousands of TikTok videos by other users using the song.
Removed from platforms due to copyright
On YouTube, too, the song was deleted from the platform with a notification saying “This video is no longer available due to Universal Music Group’s copyright claim.” This event could be a turning point for AI-generated content in music and the ethical issues it raises. To be clear, we know very little about the creation of this song and what goes on in it. We do not know what kind of artificial intelligence is actually used in this process. On the other hand, to be honest, the song isn’t bad at all. In addition, it is very difficult to distinguish the sounds in the song from the real ones. Finally, it should be noted that the process is a bit interesting because different things may emerge after it. The situation will become clear in the coming days.
