Feeney emphasized that in the medium and long term, the Shapella update will only increase the amount of ETH staked;
“As Shapella is a major mitigation event, more ETH will be staked, not less, in the medium and long term. In the not-too-distant future, we anticipate that we will reach a record level in staking Ether.”
