Spotify has announced that it will shut down Heardle, the music prediction game that was first announced last year. Launched in July, Heardle was based on users listening to the song briefly and guessing its name. As you can understand from the name, it was developed as an alternative game to Wordle.

It’s the end of the road for Spotify Heardle

Heardle, who won the admiration of music lovers in the summer of last year, managed to gather a significant player base in a short time. However, this popularity did not seem to last long. Heardle, which offers the opportunity to guess its name by listening to short clips of the songs, will close on May 5.

Heardle by Spotify was inspired by the word guessing game Wordle, which is still popular today. In case you didn’t know, Wordle is a game that asks players to guess a five-letter word and offers a new word every day. Although it is popular, it is possible to say that many of its counterparts have been developed.

Heardle was one of these equivalent productions. Spotify played a short piece of music for users and asked them to guess the name of the song. The player with the correct answer on the first guess wins. As a result of the wrong guess, the rest of the song was played.

Spotify did not detail the reason for shutting down the game services. But he said Heardle needed to pull the plug to “focus on new features in music discovery despite maintaining its popularity.” It’s unclear how many users use Heardle as a music discovery tool.
