Posts shared on Twitter from another site or social media platforms. They have their own unique card skins. You can see some of the post content from this card preview. In this way, users can realize what kind of content they are dealing with before they click.
Instagram removed this feature in 2012.
Instagram has brought back support for Twitter Card previews starting today. Now, when users share an Instagram link on Twitter, they will be able to see a preview of the post in the tweet. Before this change, when users shared an Instagram link on Twitter, the tweet only showed the URL of the Instagram link.
Instagram made the controversial decision to remove Twitter Card support in 2012. The founder of the company, Kevin Systorm, argued that this was because he wanted to control the content of Instagram and that the photos within the platform should only be viewed on Instagram.
Although users did not like this decision, they could not do anything. Instead, users started using third-party platforms to boost their Instagram posts on Twitter.
Twitter also confirmed the change, saying, “If you want to share your latest Instagram post on the Twitter timeline as well, you’re in luck. Now when you share a link to an IG post in a Tweet, it will appear as a Card with a preview of the photo.”
The change is rolling out to all users on Android, iOS and Web starting today. Although it’s a minor feature, it’s one that will be welcomed by users as it makes crossposting from Instagram to Twitter much easier and more accessible.
