According to the Wall Street Journal from reliable sources, Japanese Sega Sammy Holdings is about to buy game developer Rovio Entertainment. The deal can happen in a short time.

The acquisition could be announced next week

The well-known console and game maker is ready to allocate nearly $1 billion for Rovio. If negotiations do not break down, an agreement is expected to be reached early next week. Rovio Entertainment’s best-known product is the mobile game Angry Birds, which was released in 2009, and it was the first mobile game in history to reach one billion downloads.

Rovio cemented its success with several sequels, a TV series and two feature films. The developer recently removed the original Angry Birds game from Google Play and renamed the iOS version to Red’s First Flight. This move was made to lure players into the company’s other free games.
