It was expected, and Elon Musk founded a new company focused on artificial intelligence. As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the company was named X.AI.
The company, which a Nevada filing states was founded last month, lists Musk as the current director, and Jared Birchall, director of Musk’s family office, as his secretary. The file shows that Musk acquired the business on March 9, 2023.
Rumors that Musk might want to start an AI company have been circulating for days, and a recent report from Business Insider revealed that Musk has purchased thousands of graphics processing units (GPUs) to power an upcoming productive AI product. The Financial Times similarly wrote that Musk plans to set up an AI firm to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI.
Musk seems to clearly want to challenge OpenAI, the artificial intelligence organization he co-founded in 2015 but left in 2018, and his new company is clear proof of that.
