US prepares to regulate artificial intelligence like ChatGPT

Now we reach the other end of the ocean, to the USA. For the artificial intelligence regulation, which has been expected for a while, the USA began to examine possible rules.

US creates rules for artificial intelligence

The Biden administration said on Tuesday that it would like to get the public’s views on potential accountability measures, as well as questions about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) systems on national security and education.

ChatGPT, the fastest growing application in history, has exceeded 100 million monthly active users. Queries to artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT are answered productively within seconds and requests are fulfilled. These requests range from getting information about space to making bombs, from photos of landscapes to images of the Pope wearing a puffer jacket. Therefore, there is an undeniable case of abuse. Governments and opinion leaders, including AI firms, agree that these systems need to be regulated.

Artificial intelligence will be ensured to be reliable

Now the United States is both examining and considering public suggestions to address these issues. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which advises the White House on telecommunications and information policy, is investigating whether there are measures that can be implemented to provide assurance that AI systems are legal, effective, ethical, secure and otherwise reliable.

“Responsible AI systems can deliver tremendous benefits, but only if we consider the potential consequences and harms. For these systems to reach their full potential, companies and consumers need to be able to trust them,” said NTIA Administrator Alan Davidson. “To me, tech companies have a responsibility to make sure their products are safe before they go public,” said President Joe Biden. There is no decision taken for now, but we can say that in the future, systems with rules are approaching.
