Astronomers have watched a strange space object repeatedly explode over 1,600 times at fairly short intervals, but they still have no idea what really happened. This object is emitting fast radio bursts (FRB), a strange space phenomenon discovered in 2007 that little is known about.

This interesting object has been named FRB 121102 and is located in a dwarf galaxy 3 billion light-years away from us. Astronomers have been observing FRB 121102 with the large FAST telescope in China for some time. In the last period, after watching for nearly 60 hours, the researchers announced that they recorded 1,652 bursts, with the fastest rate being one burst roughly every 30 seconds.

It is unknown whether FRB 121102 is a magnetar. It is said that gas and dust are unlikely to be found around the source, as the intensity and speed of the explosions is not likely to allow such materials to collect around the source.
