Technology giant Sony made an important decision last year, combining the cloud gaming service PlayStation Now and PlayStaiton Plus under one roof under the name “PlayStation Plus”. This new service allowed players to access many features for certain monthly fees.
After the company hid all PS Now behind the PS Plus, it was wondered if Sony would make a new cloud gaming move for a while. A news shared by The Verge today revealed that the company has started to make some moves in this regard.
Sony has opened many job postings for cloud gaming technologies
It has been seen that Sony, which has recently parted ways with its nearly 90 employees and joined the firing frenzy in recent months, has opened new job postings. The most striking part of these job postings was that they were about cloud gaming technologies. In one of the postings, it was even revealed that the recruit will have a task of “developing and delivering a strategic vision for cloud gaming services on PlayStation”.
22 job postings for the cloud playground reveal that the company is seeking people from many different fields, including project managers, platform engineers, product management, technical writers, and software developers. In the announcement regarding the postings, it is said that those who will get a job will have the opportunity to lead the cloud gaming revolution at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
As a matter of fact, these job postings brought up rumors that Sony, which was seen to have posted a similar post before, could make a new cloud gaming move for PlayStation. In the statements, it was seen that the goal was to provide game streaming to millions of people on various devices. In addition to all these, it was also given the signals that it is working on a new cloud infrastructure with Amazon.
There is currently no information on whether Sony will launch a next-generation cloud gaming service. Considering that the company is still trying to recruit new people and improve the basic infrastructure to set its vision on this issue, it is highly unlikely that this will happen. Still, job postings are an indication that the tech giant attaches great importance to cloud gaming technologies for PlayStation.
Could the job postings be related to Sony’s new portable console that we expect to introduce soon?
A claim made by Tom Henderson a few days ago revealed that Sony may be working on a new portable handheld console called “Q Lite” for now. But the most notable thing about this device is that it will not come with cloud gaming support, it can only be used with the PS5’s “Remote Play” feature.
Current job postings have also given rise to rumors that cloud gaming may be related to the new handheld console. It is not possible to say anything about this for now; however, the claim of a reliable source, Henderson, shows that cloud gaming will not be included in the device.
However, if new cloud gaming moves are being worked on, we can say that we may see this feature in Q Lite in the future, although not immediately. We will see together how Sony, whose tension with Microsoft and Activision Blizzard continues, will make moves for cloud technologies.
