AMD released the Ryzen 7 7800X3D 3D V-Cache processor a few days ago. With the embargo lifted, independent tests were also released, and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D (120W TDP) outperformed its rival Core i9 13900K/KS and its big brother Ryzen 7 7950X3D. Now, this processor has been tested on AMD’s entry-level A620 motherboard.

Tested on Ryzen 7 7800X3D, A620 and X670 platform

AMD’s AM5 motherboards with the A620 chip are basically designed as entry-level for 65W Ryzen 7000 processors. However, AMD also allows manufacturers to offer higher TDP on A620 motherboards. YouTuber ‘minteger’ tested this on different motherboards. The results are remarkable.

In the tests, the performance of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D (4.2 GHz-5GHz) was compared to the high-end X670 and the entry-level A620. DDR5 6000 memories were used on both test platforms. The first noticeable difference is in the clock speeds. On the X670 platform, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D was able to reach 4.9 Ghz levels. On the other hand, on the A620 platform, this value remained at 4.6 GHz. The power drawn during the test was 81W in the A620 and 95W in the X670.

The difference is too low

The performance difference is quite low. While the performance difference in synthetic tests is around 5 percent, the difference is reflected as 3 percent in games. Considering that X670 series motherboards are much more expensive, A620 motherboards seem to be preferable considering the performance difference. Or for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, a B650 series motherboard, which costs $20-25 more than the A620, can be preferred. Since there is no power limitation here, the performance difference will not be at a significant level. Frankly, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D can be considered one of the best processors AMD has ever made. The fact that it offers much higher performance for its price makes it a very attractive game processor.
