Tech fans in Italy again resorted to a well-known method to bypass the unblocking of the popular artificial intelligence software ChatGPT: bypassing the block using VPN services…
The country’s data protection watchdog, known as Garante, banned access to the advanced chatbot in the country on April 1, citing privacy concerns. This made Italy the first Western country to block the service, along with notorious censorship governments such as Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.
According to AtlasVPN data, there has been a staggering 400 percent increase in VPN traffic from Italy since the ban went into effect. Google Trends recorded a similar increase, with Italians searching for the word ‘VPN’ 600 times more.
In short, VPN services remain, as always, the most common solution to internet blocking. As with any internet ban, this is not surprising. And we are sure that the same scene will continue to be experienced in every future access ban.
