Fossil fuels are now being replaced by alternative methods. While renewable methods of energy production started to gain momentum, transportation vehicles began to be affected by this situation. Nowadays, when we started to see electric cars and airplanes, marine vehicles are also sailing towards electric energy.

With its solar panel and hydrogen fuel cell, AQUON One offers unlimited range

One of the vehicles where the effect of renewable energy is seen most clearly is undoubtedly the AQUON One. Equipped with solar panels and hydrogen fuel cells, the vehicle follows a very ambitious path in terms of sustainability.

AQUON, established within the body of Zurich-based Swiss Sustainable Yachts AG, stands out as a sustainability-oriented yacht manufacturer. Stating that they want to offer Swiss quality engineering, Spanish naval architecture expertise and Italian design together, the company prioritizes sustainability.

AQUON One, the company’s first zero-emission yacht, draws attention with its technology. This unique yacht, which can serve at sea for days without refueling and offers unlimited range without being dependent on fuel, may cause the maritime industry to be reconsidered.

Using solar panels to power electric motors, AQUON has taken sustainability to a different level with hydrogen fuel cells for additional clean power and long-term energy storage. The 64-square-metre solar panels on top of the yacht power the engines and charge the lithium-ion batteries.

The real striking feature of AQUON One starts at this point. The extra energy produced is used to convert desalinated seawater into hydrogen gas. The generated gas is then compressed to 300 bar and stored in the onboard carbon tanks. Fuel cells provide unbelievable sustainability by converting hydrogen back into electricity when energy is needed to drive the two electric motors and provide additional energy to the passengers on board.

This special yacht offers its users the chance to travel non-stop for up to 3 days when its battery and hydrogen tanks are fully charged. The maximum speed of AQUON One, which has managed to attract attention with its zero-emission structure, has been announced as 29.6 km/h (16 knots).

Today, the climate crisis and the level of environmental pollution are increasing day by day, sustainability has gained even more importance. So what do you think about the zero emission AQUON One? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
