Samsung, one of the leading names in the semiconductor market, is preparing to establish a new production facility in Japan. The technology giant, which has recently changed its name to “Galaxy” due to the political tensions between South Korea and Japan, will strengthen its ties with Japan.

Samsung expands chip production line

According to sources close to the industry, Samsung has started negotiations for a new chip packaging plant planned to be established in Japan. This new facility to be established at the same time will be the technology giant’s first test line in the Asian country. As it is known, today the USA and many countries impose sanctions against China’s progress in semiconductor technology. We can say that the new news came at the same time as these restrictions.

Indeed, on Friday, Japan banned the export of 23 different chip manufacturing hardware to China, amid increasing US restrictions. However, Samsung plans to establish its new manufacturing facility in the Kanagawa region, near Tokyo. Let us remind you that the company already has a research and development center in the same region.

The timeline or investment details for the new facility have yet to be shared. However, this is expected to amount to $75 million or ten billion yen. It looks like Samsung will continue to expand its ecosystem while strengthening its relationships with local equipment manufacturers based in Japan.
