Microsoft is testing a new feature for the Windows 11 operating system that will automatically adjust the screen brightness on laptops and desktops.

Adaptive screen brightness adjustment technology has long been used in tablets and smartphones. This feature automatically adjusts the brightness level of the screen according to the environment, reducing the strain on the user’s eyes and saving battery. However, it works based on sensors that read the level of ambient light.

It will work according to screen brightness changes

The screen brightness technology, developed as part of the Windows 11 operating system, will work not only on laptops, but also on desktop PCs. Unlike systems on mobile devices that adjust brightness using sensors based on ambient light, Windows 11 responds to changes in screen brightness.

For example, if you start File Explorer with a dark theme and then switch to a web page in Chrome with a white background, your device will reduce the screen brightness to save battery life and not strain your eyes. Also for laptops, you will be able to enable the auto screen brightness feature to activate when your device is running on battery only.
