OnePlus announced the Jupiter-themed OnePlus 11, and the teaser image the brand shared a few days ago turned out to be a bit more realistic than we initially anticipated. The new phone is called OnePlus 11 Jupiter Rock Edition and takes its design cues from the celestial body of the same name.
As for the material used in the phone… Actually, it’s not exactly marble. OnePlus says it has developed a new material it calls “3D microcrystalline rock” instead. OnePlus has experimented with a variety of materials in the past, including wood grain and sandstone.
The OnePlus 11 Jupiter Rock Edition has only been launched in China, but is expected to launch in India as well. Its launch in western markets is unlikely in the near future.
Announcing the new phone on Chinese social networking site Weibo, OnePlus China president Li Jie shared: “It’s material that has never been used before in the mobile phone industry. This is a ‘place that no one knows about’ and it takes a lot of time and cost to explore. It is an excellent material. It is derived from the combination of nature and technology. It has a unique texture and firm structure. When you hold it in your hand, you can feel an unprecedented feeling. It looks like jade that has been washed with water for thousands of years.”
Li added that the material is resistant to fingerprints, abrasion and bacteria. He added that due to the nature of the materials and processes used, the OnePlus 11 Jupiter Rock edition will be unique to each buyer.
