READING NOW Years have passed, but Tesla’s solar panel installation is ridiculous
When the calendars showed 2016, Tesla bought SolarCity in a deal for $ 2.6 billion. Elon Musk, who served on the boards of both companies in the same year, announced the roof system based on solar panels called Solar Roof. However, even after 7 years, let alone reaching the targets, even the number of systems installed is ridiculous.

Tesla Solar Roof did not deliver what was expected

According to new research by Wood Mackenzie, only 3,000 systems have been installed in the US since Tesla introduced Solar Roof technology seven years ago. This setup rate is well below Tesla’s previously announced targets. Tesla was aiming to produce 1,000 Solar Roofs per week by the end of 2019 and to install 1,000 per week in the first half of 2020.

Wood Mackenzie stated that the average weekly Tesla Solar Roof installations reached only 21 in 2022. In fact, the installation record was recorded with 32 installations per week at the beginning of last year. While Tesla’s Solar Roof effort is struggling, the company’s traditional solar panels are getting a bit more attention in the market. According to the reports, Tesla installed conventional solar panel systems capable of producing 156 megawatts of power in 2021 and 248 megawatts in 2022. The estimated capacity of the 3,000 Solar Roof systems installed is approximately 30 megawatts.

Performance of other energy solutions is promising

While Tesla’s Energy division’s Solar Roof solution doesn’t deliver the desired performance, traditional solar panels don’t perform badly. On the other hand, the biggest successes are experienced by Powerwall, another energy solution. Last year, a production capacity of 6500 units per week was reached and the latest data says that the total installation has exceeded 250,000 units. Meanwhile, Powerwall can be thought of as a household battery. Thanks to this large battery that stores solar energy, when there is a power outage, the stored power allows you to continue using lights, sockets and appliances for one to several days.
