General Bytes, the largest Bitcoin (BTC) ATM manufacturer, lost more than $ 1.5 million after the attack.

Bitcoin ATM manufacturer General Bytes announced in an official statement on March 19 that they were hacked over the weekend. The firm announced that the incident took place between March 17-18 and that hackers had infiltrated the database. Noting that the vulnerability was caused by an interface that allows video to be uploaded to the main server from Bitcoin ATMs, the company said that the attacker carried out the attack by installing Java software on the main server thanks to this interface.

According to the company’s statements, the attacker gained access to many privileges, such as disabling two-factor authentication, accessing user login information, and saving users’ funds.

Announcing that cloud services were also violated, the company warned its users. The warning said: “We urge all our customers to take immediate action and carefully read the security bulletin to protect their funds and personal information.”

While the amount of information the attacker stole remains unclear, the company has announced that it is temporarily shutting down its cloud services. In addition to these, the company’s ATMs in the United States were also closed.

The data presented shows that 56 BTC worth $1.5 million were stolen. It was also among the details that many different asset wallet addresses such as Ripple, Cardano, Tron and Binance USD were used in the attack.
