If you’re using an iPhone 14 series phone and are hoping to use the same case for an iPhone 15 you’ll be purchasing at the end of the year, it’s not good news for you to learn that you might not be able to.
As reported via 9to5Mac, this information comes from a test conducted by Japanese site Macotakara, which purchased some iPhone 15 series molds from the Alibaba retail site and tried to put them in cases designed for the iPhone 14 models.
As can be seen in the published video, the cases are mostly not compatible due to the slightly larger camera mounts in some cases and the extra size of around 1mm on some bodies. Since the shape of the volume buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models is also slightly different (and it is expected to be), it is normal that the cases do not fit properly. The volume button change and camera mount size change leaks we’ve seen before may be enough to explain these differences.
It looks like the only iPhone 15 model to fit the predecessor’s cases will be the iPhone 15 Plus, with no changes in dimensions or camera block size.
Macotakara has also tested screen protectors for iPhone 14 series phones with these patterns, and says they’re also not compatible with any iPhone 15 unit.
Of course, it should not be forgotten that it is only unapproved patterns that are at stake. So there is a possibility that what you see in this video is not real. However, considering previous leaks, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that iPhone 14 cases are not compatible with iPhone 15 models.
