The efficiency problems experienced in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 continue to cause disruptions in Samsung’s chip production plans. If we recall, Qualcomm, one of the company’s biggest customers, moved the production of its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to TSMC. Now the chip giant will again rely on TSMC instead of Samsung for its upcoming Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 processors.

Samsung loses Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 production to rival

According to reports, Qualcomm will prefer TSMC’s 4nm process to Samsung Foundry’s 4nm LPE process in Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 production. For those who don’t know, TSMC offers better efficiency in the same production process compared to its competitor. Therefore, we can say that Qualcomm’s new decision is not surprising.

It is also said that Samsung has made great progress in the production of 3nm GAA and is in a better position than its rival TSMC. But only time will tell if this information is correct. As a matter of fact, different sources say that Qualcomm may return to Samsung in the production of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Going back to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1, the new processor will be powered by a 2.92GHz Cortex-X2, three 2.5GHz Cortex-A710 and 1.8GHz four Cortex-A510 cores. On the graphics side, it will rely on the 580MHz Adreno 725 GPU. Let’s also remind you that Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 will be the first Snapdragon 7 series processor with Cortex-X series cores.

According to leaks, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 scores 1,232 points in Geekbench’s single-core CPU test and 4,095 points in the multi-core CPU test. These scores are almost as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and MediaTek Dimensity 9000. It looks like Qualcomm will allow mid-range phones to compete with last year’s flagships.
