Although Twitch, the most popular live broadcasting platform, imposes bans on broadcasters showing inappropriate content, this situation cannot be detected instantly. Even images shown for a few seconds can spread on social media and create a big agenda. The fact that the images are fake images created with deepfake enlarges the discussions.
We saw an example of this in the January 30 broadcast of Brandon ‘Atrioc’ Ewing. The broadcaster featured the image of Pokimane, QTCinderella and Maya Higa placed on a nude body in their broadcast. The images quickly spread on the Internet. Twitch rolled up its sleeves to prevent such a deepfake event from happening again.
Nudity images created with deepfake will result in a permanent ban:
Twitch, which wants to prevent images created and spread without the consent of the broadcasters, announced that it will take new measures to protect the broadcasters and the community. Two updates to the company’s policies were shared as follows:
- Intentionally promoting, creating or sharing nudity fakes created with technologies like deepfake will result in a direct permanent ban. Even if the incident is the publisher’s first violation, the situation will not change.
- Non-consensual synthetic images will also be added to the Adult Nudity policy. Even a momentary display of these images (even if the goal is to react to the image) will be penalized.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict the images shown on Twich or any live broadcast platform or to analyze the images in split-seconds. Therefore, what platforms can do is limited to deterrent penalties in current technology.
