Although Nintendo Switch is not the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to handheld console, Steam Deck has started to gain a foothold in the market because the hardware of the device is many times higher than the Switch.
Valve also wanted to do justice to the hardware of this handheld console and integrated the ray tracing technology, which has become one of the favorite technologies of the players in recent years, with the new update.
Ray tracing is currently only available in one game on the Steam Deck
With the beta 3.4.6 update released for Steam Deck, an integrated in-game image of ray tracing technology was shared for the popular shooter game DOOM Eternal.
In the screenshot above shared by Pierre-Loup Griffais, one of Valve engineers, it was also stated that DOOM Eternal received 35 FPS with ray tracing technology active.
Ray tracing integrated into DOOM Eternal on Steam Deck works via the Vulkan Graphics API. However, Valve said it is also working on integrating DirectX Ray Tracing (DXR) technology, which is a more challenging task.
