One of the biggest problems of our age is obesity and the risk of obesity is increasing day by day due to changing living conditions. The World Obesity Federation, which has published a report on the subject, says that 2035 will be a very critical year for obesity. According to the research, by 2035, more than half of the world’s population will be obese.

Obesity and overweight will affect at least 4 billion people in 2035, according to the research conducted in the light of current data. Moreover, the category that will suffer the most from this situation will be children. The World Obesity Federation states that the obesity problem will spread mostly among African and Asian countries. This is because low- and middle-income countries find it difficult to take action against obesity.

So why is the risk of obesity increasing so rapidly?

According to research by experts in the field, there are four main reasons why obesity is on the rise. These reasons are listed as follows:

  • Orientation towards processed food consumption.
  • Inactivity.
  • Poor policies regarding food supply and marketing.
  • Failure of health systems to allocate adequate resources to obesity and overweight.

Making statements about the research, the President of the World Obesity Federation Prof. Louise Baur said: “Governments and decision-makers around the world should evaluate the systems and underlying causes that contribute to obesity and not pass on the health effects and social and economic costs of this to the younger generation. prof. Louise Baur states that the report should be taken seriously and action should be taken as soon as possible. The Federation will present its work to the United Nations in order to mobilize the authorities.
