Google and Samsung lead the Android world with their 5-year software update support. Most phone manufacturers usually withdraw their support for their phones before they reach 5 years. However, there is a phone that has received update support since 2015.
Introduced in 2015, FairPhone 2 gets its final update
Introduced in December 2015, FairPhone 2 manages to leave Google and Samsung behind in terms of updates. Unfortunately, support will be withdrawn from the phone, which has been kept up to date, in March. The company stated that with the 7-year update, they have exceeded the 3 or 5 year commitment they initially set.
FairPhone 2 was released in 2015 with Android 5.1 Lollipop. The phone, which has been kept up to date for a long time, received its last major operating system update in March 2022. With the update, the phone has been updated to Android 10. When you consider that the Snapdragon 801 processor inside the device does not even support Android 7 (Nougat), we can easily say that the company has achieved great success.
FairPhone, in its statement, stated that they will bring a final Fairphone 2 software update for Android 10 in March. Stating that this is the last update, the company stated that there will be no error updates in the shared note.
The company also states that with the end of update support, its devices may cause security problems. It was also noted that security-critical applications such as banking applications may not work in the future on FairPhone 2. FairPhone is doing one last favor to its customers with the latest update. The company will provide a 50 euro coupon to users who bring their phones for recycling until March 31.
FairPhone has managed to keep their phones up to date for quite some time, accomplishing what many major manufacturers have failed to do. We hope that this policy will be adopted by other manufacturers as well. So what do you think about FairPhone 2, which has been updated for 7 years?
