When it comes to processors, screens, cameras, smartphone technology is advancing rapidly. On the other hand, the biggest obstacle to the development of these technologies is batteries. Unfortunately, battery technology has not developed as much as desired recently. Honor, on the other hand, brings a new approach to battery technology.
Capacity increases with silicon-carbon battery
Honor introduced the industry’s first silicon-carbon battery, as well as the Magic 5, Magic 5 Pro and Magic VS models the other day. The new battery technology promises 12.8 percent higher energy density compared to existing lithium batteries that use graphite for one of the electrodes (anode).
To explain the new battery technology with numbers; The Honor Magic5 Pro has a standard 5,100 mAh battery. If a silicon-carbon battery were used instead, it would have had a capacity of 5,450 mAh.
Honor CEO George Zhao gave a short briefing on battery technology during the introduction of his new smartphones. Comparative tables on why the new batteries are better were also shared during the promotion. When the capacity of a standard lithium battery drops to 3.5 volts, its performance decreases, while silicon-carbon derivatives show themselves at this point. The new batteries can offer 240 percent more capacity than the standard battery at 3.5V.
