Qualcomm, one of the world’s largest semiconductor and telecommunications companies, held an event within the scope of the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023) held in Barcelona. This event included important details about the satellite connection, which is one of the innovative features that the smartphone world has been talking about recently. You remember; US-based technology giant Apple, with the iPhone 14 family, allowed phones to communicate with satellites in emergency situations.
Qualcomm introduced its technology called Snapdragon Satellite at the CES 2023 held last month. This technology brought satellite connection support to Android phones. The statements made today revealed the smartphone manufacturers that will use this technology.
Here are the Android phone manufacturers that will use the Snapdragon Satellite feature:
- Oppo
- in vivo
- Xiaomi
- Motorola
- honor
- nothing
In the near future, these smartphone manufacturers will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Satellite feature to integrate satellite connectivity into their phones. However, none of these brands have made a clear calendar statement for now. In other words, it is not yet clear when we will start to meet with Android phones with satellite connection.
Why not Samsung?
Apple’s biggest competitor in the smartphone industry is undoubtedly Samsung. You may have wondered why Samsung is not included in the list above, while the satellite connection feature has been introduced with the iPhone 14 family. Let’s explain; TM Roh, CEO of Mobile World at Samsung Electronics, made a statement last week and said: “Once the right timing, infrastructure and technology are ready, we will of course consider actively adopting this feature for the Samsung Galaxy, for our mobile division as well.”
