Of course, there is Black Mesa, a remake of the original Half-Life, but it doesn’t make much sense for nostalgia lovers. However, the Half Life RT mod comes out of the hands of Sultim Tsyrendashiev (sultim_t), who is familiar in this field. Sultim has also made RT mods for Quake and Doom before.
No Half Life 3 but RT mode
Ray-traced Half-Life still looks like a late ’90s version, but greatly upgraded with beautiful ambient light beams and enhanced reflections. Although it is difficult to feel the difference of ray tracing in every scene outdoors, light and shading add a very different atmosphere in some landscapes, especially in laboratory environments. Thanks to the RT mode, the horror elements can also come to the fore.
On the other hand, although we are talking about a 1998 game, ray tracing mode requires powerful hardware, at least on the graphics card side. Some users even say that you may need an RTX 4090 to play this mode in 4K resolution. By the way, in addition to the RT mode, there is also an optional DLSS mode, which should be useful for performance. You can find the download links in the source section.
