US-based technology giant Apple brought a remarkable feature to iPhones with iOS 14, which it introduced in 2020. This feature made it possible to use an iPhone as a car key. In other words, vehicle owners would not need a key to get on and start their start/stop vehicles. The iPhone in the pocket, the Apple Watch on the wrist would be able to do the job.
However, this feature has not become widespread despite the intervening years. Only a few brands such as BMW, Kia and Genesis rolled up their sleeves to take advantage of this feature of Apple. A recent development reveals that Apple is very enthusiastic about this issue. Because the company seems to make it easier for automakers to spread the digital key feature with a new application.
A new test app is now available for any car company that wants it!
Apple created a new app for car companies and released it for free. This application, called “Car Keys Tests”, can be actively used by all automobile companies included in Apple’s certification program called “MFi”. So what exactly will this app do?
All automobile manufacturers who want to switch to the digital key application will be able to easily access the Car Keys Tests application. The software works of the companies will be tested quickly through this application. Thus, not only the automobile manufacturers we mentioned, but also all brands such as Peugeot, Toyota or Opel will be able to provide digital key service. With this move, there will be no need for an official partnership between Apple and the automaker.
