Long known as ‘RAM exploiter’, Google Chrome has hosted performance improvements with updates over the years. But with the latest update, Chrome has largely finished its RAM exploitation.
With the version of Google Chrome 110, the browser has a built-in ‘Memory Saver’ mode. The performance mode, which can be enabled in the browser settings, will now make Chrome consume much less RAM.
Google Chrome Memory Saver mode:
When Google Chrome Memory Saver is active, memory will be freed on tabs other than the one you are currently on. In other words, these tabs will not be processed in the background, will not progress, will not take any action.
If you want to return to inactive tabs, the tabs will automatically become active again. Users will be able to add the websites they visit frequently to the ‘Sites that will always remain active’ section and choose to keep these tabs active while the performance mode is on.
On the other hand, the performance mode will not prevent the audio or video playing in the other tab from stopping when you switch tabs. Tabs that play audio or video, fill out forms, share screens, or have notifications will not be disabled in performance mode.
