The touch screens used in automobiles are polluted to such an extent that it disturbs the drivers in terms of both health and appearance. Announcing that they are working on this subject, General Motors announced that they have received a patent for self-cleaning screen technology.

General Motors will produce a self-cleaning screen

The company stated that the fingerprint problem that occurs on touch screens will be completely eliminated thanks to the technology they have developed. It has been announced that the technology consisting of four different pixels does not have any negative effects on the eye health of the users.

There is an invisible ultraviolet pixel in the technology developed by making some fundamental changes in the pixels on the screen. The developed photocatalytic system works in harmony with the red, green and blue LEDs in standard RGB matrices.

In the developed technology, there is a metal oxide-based photocatalyst on the screen surface. Analysts speculate that this technology was inspired by self-cleaning solar panels. It is worth noting that a transparent titanium dioxide layer is used in self-cleaning solar panels.

Photocatalysts change from hydrophobic to super hydrophilic when exposed to UV light, attracting moisture from the air. The technology, which creates a thin layer of water on the surface, is oxidized to kill harmful organisms. Thanks to photocatalysts, oil residues from our fingers can also be cleaned.
