It has been learned that Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), former CEO of FTX, used a VPN to access the internet.
The fact that SBF is using a VPN could potentially lead to more restrictions on bail terms. Earlier, the Manhattan judge handling SBF’s fraud case stated that SBF could not be prevented from communicating with others.
SBF Requests to Restrict Internet Use
Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the former founder of the bankrupt crypto exchange FTX, uses VPNs to access the internet, according to US prosecutors. The SBF’s use of the internet could potentially result in further restrictions on bail conditions.
The government promptly informed the defense attorney and raised concerns about the defendant’s use of a VPN after learning that he had used it twice in the past few weeks. Details were shared by US attorney Danielle Sassoon in a February 13 letter to Judge Lewis Kaplan.
The ability to hide the location of internet users through VPNs makes it impossible for the government to trace the accused on the internet. While the VPN can be used harmlessly, according to Sassoon’s letter, it can also be used to gain access to foreign crypto sites that block US users or sneak into the dark web.
