Many Netflix subscribers have chosen to share their passwords with others since the service first launched. Thus, there was an opportunity to divide the fee. However, in recent years, since the number of subscribers began to decline, Netflix, which is not happy with this situation, has started to take steps on password sharing.
The new rules for password sharing started to be implemented in four countries today: Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain. Password sharing rules were previously tested by Netflix in several countries in Latin America. The changes are related to determining the primary location where your account will be used, which means that location checks will be made when the account is accessed to determine if it has been shared. The announcement says you can also watch it while traveling, so how that will be implemented is currently unknown.
Netflix plans to offer the ability to add users to an existing plan for an additional fee, in a slightly different model from the ‘family plan’ offerings offered by other services. These rules are expected to come into effect on a large scale in 2023.
