Windows 11 sends large amounts of user data not only to Microsoft, but also to addresses owned by third-party companies, including Google and market research firms. The YouTube channel The PC Security Channel found this by comparing the network activity of the latest version of Windows 11 to that of Windows XP.

In addition to multiple sources from Microsoft, data is sent to servers of CDN provider Akamai, certification center Digicert, Google, anti-virus developer McAfee, ScorecardResearch, a market research project, and Onetrust, a company with similar activities. What is depressing is that all this network activity was first detected on a Windows 11 laptop connected to the internet. The Wireshark program, which analyzes only traffic, is installed in the operating system.

Windows XP only connected to Windows Update

The Youtube channel decided to repeat this process on a Windows XP machine for comparison, and the traffic analysis revealed an incomparably less disturbing picture. The only server the old system tried to communicate with was the Windows Update resource. No Google, MSN, Bing and dubious market research companies.

Windows 11 starts communicating with all these services when you first connect to the internet, without asking for any permission from the user. The capabilities of the latest generation operating system are far beyond what Windows XP can do, and it is conceivable that some of these features may not work without an Internet connection.

But the list found resources that have nothing to do with the core functionality of the system. These only collect user data and increase the relevance of ads. However, Windows 11 is not free and unfortunately users pay for both the operating system and the data collection tools that come with it.
