Google sued: Accused of monopolizing the digital advertising market

According to a court document, the US Department of Justice sued Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, on Tuesday for having a monopoly on its digital advertising business. The government is refusing Google's dominance of digital advertising technologies.

According to a court document, the US Department of Justice sued Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, on Tuesday for having a monopoly on its digital advertising business. The government said it used anti-competitive, exclusionary and illegal means to eliminate or mitigate any threat to Google’s dominance over digital advertising technologies.

Second case for monopoly

This is the second federal antitrust lawsuit against Google for alleged violations of the antitrust law. The Justice Department lawsuit filed against Google in 2020 focuses on Google’s search monopoly. Eight states, including Google’s home state of California, have joined the ministry in the lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Monopoly in the advertising market

The lawsuit states, “Google has stifled meaningful competition and inhibited innovation in the digital advertising industry, generating supra-competitive profits. To support the interests of advertisers and publishers that make today’s powerful internet possible, it has blocked the fair functioning of the free market.” expressions stand out.

Makes up 80% of their revenue

Google remains by far the market leader, with its share of US digital ad revenue falling from 36.7% in 2016 to 28.8%. Google’s advertising business accounts for about 80% of its revenue. On the other hand, Google shares fell 1.3% on the news.
