One of the most prestigious awards of the automobile industry, ‘Car of the Year in Europe’, found its owner this year as well. The award, which was awarded within the scope of the Brussels Motor Show, went to the electric SUV Avenger, recently introduced by Jeep operating under the umbrella of Stellantis.
The vehicle managed to win the grand prize as a result of the votes of a jury of 57 leading automobile journalists from 23 countries. Avenger, the brand’s first electric car in the past months, won 328 points from the jury and came in first by a wide margin.
Avenger surpassed models such as Volkswagen ID Buzz, Peugeot 408
Jeep’s small SUV took first place, outpacing many recently introduced major cars. Volkswagen’s retro minibus ID Buzz took the second place with 241 points, while Nissan Ariya took the third place with 211 points. The points and rankings of the vehicles that made it to the final are as follows;

Last year’s award was won by Kia’s electric model EV6. Toyota Yaris won the award in 2021, the Peugeot 208 in 2020, and the Jaguar I-Pace in 2019.
How is the Car of the Year award given?
The European Car of the Year Awards celebrated its 60th anniversary this year. At the award ceremony, journalists from many countries are given the right to give a total of 25 points, while a car can be given the highest 10 points. Each jury member is also asked to distribute 25 points among at least five vehicles. In this way, the vehicle with the highest score wins the prize. The most important factors in the selection are the technical features of the vehicles and whether they are worth the price.
As we said at the beginning of our article, the jury consisted of 57 journalists from 23 countries this year. Previously, this number was 61, but Russian journalists were excluded from the jury due to tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
Jeep Avengers specifications
Jeep, a brand of Stellantis, introduced the Avenger in October. Being a compact SUV, the car had an electric motor with 154 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. The vehicle, which came with a 54 kWh battery pack, offered a range of 400 kilometers on a full charge.
