Ubisoft cancels three games and Skull and Bones is delayed once again

Things aren’t quite right at Ubisoft. The publisher has canceled three more games after four games it canceled last summer. Not only that, the company has announced yet another delay for Skull and Bones. We first saw Skull and Bones in 2017.

Skull and Bones has been delayed a total of 6 times since it was first announced. Previous information showed that the game would be released on March 9. However, with the decision taken, this date was postponed to the beginning of the 2023-24 fiscal year, namely April. According to the company, the game has been significantly improved thanks to the delays, and players will be pleased with it in the beta phase.

Besides that, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023 didn’t perform as well as the company expected. CEO Yves Guillemot said they are facing challenges as “as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and endless live games in the context of worsening economic conditions affecting consumer spending.” As a result, Ubisoft reduced its estimated operating income for this year by approximately $1 billion.

Ubisoft is tightening its belt going forward and will focus less on games. In addition to the canceled games, the company has also reduced its research and development work on the upcoming premium and free-to-play games by $538 million. In addition, Ubisoft says that they will enter a targeted restructuring process and that some assets will be disposed of, while targeting a cost reduction of over $ 215 million in two years.

Besides Skull and Bones, perhaps the biggest game Ubisoft has for this year will be Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is also scheduled to arrive by the end of March 2024. Other unannounced premium titles are on the way for next fiscal year, including an unannounced “big game”.
