Meta is officially ending support for the first Quest VR headset. It was shared that users with the Meta Quest virtual reality headset will no longer receive new features, and that updates containing critical bug fixes and security patches will be provided until 2024.

Social features will also be unavailable

In the screenshot of the email Meta sent to users, it is seen that Quest will continue to work, but users will not be able to create or join a party, and users who have access to Meta Horizon Home social features will lose access to these features as of March 5, 2023.

The Quest, which launched in 2019 under the Oculus brand, is the predecessor of the popular Quest 2 VR headset coming out in late 2020. The two titles gained largely the same new features despite having significantly different hardware. Quest 2 comes with Qualcomm’s dedicated chip for AR and VR headsets Snapdragon XR2 (processor of 2020). Quest is powered by Snapdragon 835/Kryo 280 (2017’s processor) platform.
