Semi-autonomous vehicles are starting to enter our lives more and more every day. BMW’s 7-series G70 is also included in the semi-autonomous technology, which still stands out as a luxury technology today.
Speaking at CES 2023, BMW Chief Technology Officer Frank Weber stated that the level 3 autonomous driving system will be added to the company’s flagship model, the G70, in 2023. According to Weber’s statement, initially the maximum speed at which the system will operate will be electronically limited, but this speed will be increased over time.
Why is the Level 3 autonomous driving system only coming to BMW’s 7 series?
In an interview with Carbuzz, Weber also explained why level 3 autonomous driving technology is coming to the 7 series. Stating that the vehicle’s sensor system installation and backup energy solutions are expensive for level 3 autonomous technology, Weber said that for this reason, they brought this technology to the ultra-luxury 7 series in the first stage.
This technology will come to other models in the coming years.
The BMW CTO stated that the level 3 autonomous driving technology currently used in more luxury cars will also come to more cost-effective cars in the next 10 years.
This feature, called “Personal Pilot”, will not be available in all regions.
However, this technology, which will come with the BMW G70, will not be sold worldwide. For example, this technology will be available in Europe and China, but not in the US.
It should be noted that Mercedes, which we can see as the biggest competitor of BMW, has obtained a level 3 autonomous driving certificate for the S series and fully electric model EQS in Europe.
