There probably isn’t a device with a screen that can’t play Doom on it. You know, Doom, a 30-year-old shoot-and-kill game, has been modified to be playable on anything with a screen, from cell phones to pregnancy tests to refrigerators to tractors. Now it’s time for an LED Christmas tree.

Sean Hodgins is the person who made this possible. Hodgins is famous for his interesting inventions. For example, printing a 3D printing machine that can print 3D Christmas gifts… Or a snow globe that makes snow fall by using thermoelectric currents on its own…

For 2022, Hodgins developed his own 1.5-metre electronic Christmas tree, which looks more like a flat triangular frame made of welded metal pipes. But thanks to a color-changing LED strip and a half-horsepower electric AC motor, this triangular frame can be spun at terrifying speeds to create a lasting visual effect that reveals a glowing, ornamented tree. This was a fun and equally scary holiday decoration. But what good would an electronic Christmas tree do when Christmas is over?

The answer is very simple. Actually, this Christmas tree is nothing more than a cone-shaped LED display. Therefore, it can display anything coming from a Raspberry Pi or a laptop. In this case, it means we can play Doom on it too.

Of course, it is not possible to obtain a very efficient image. But as can be seen from the video below, does it run Doom? Yes it works…
