The new Ryzen 7040 series is powered by the new Ryzen AI engine. The Ryzen AI engine is the first productized version of the new XDNA. The accelerator can be configured for different applications and the right power efficiency. Designed for laptop models, the 7040 series is an ultra-thin processor that goes through the 4nm manufacturing process and contains more than 25 billion transistors (almost twice the Ryzen 6000 generation). The processors will provide over 30 hours of battery life.
When will laptops with Ryzen 7040 processors be released?
AMD stated that the AI engine-on-chip will provide other benefits, such as improved audio and video experience, as well as better real-time gaming performance. The first laptops with Ryzen 7040 series processors will be available in March 2023. The company also shared the information that more than 200 designs will be released this year.
Intel Raptor Lake vs AMD Ryzen 7040
Ryzen 7000 processors are AMD’s next big product, and the Ryzen 7040 is the new pinnacle for AMD-powered laptops. At CES 2023, Intel introduced the fastest 13th-generation Raptor Lake CPUs ever, including the Core i9-13900KS, the first 24-core laptop processor. Time will tell if the AMD Ryzen 7040 series can compete with the Intel Raptor Lake series.
