Relationships today, like many other things, are getting more and more complex. Many of the dozens of different types of relationships, such as Ghosting and Lovebombing, often end in breakups.
A group of researchers from the University of Texas, who studied the language and moods individuals use before, during and after a breakup, discovered that they could predict potential breakups about 3 months in advance.

For this research, researchers at the University of Texas surveyed 6,803 users who posted on Reddit’s hugely popular r/BreakUps forum. Users on this forum often started posting around the time of their relationship close to the breakup, asking for advice and continuing to post until after the breakup. Researchers also looked at posts from users on this forum on other unrelated forums, and found, surprisingly, that users started posting revealing posts just months before they left.
Researchers examining users’ 2-year-old posts found that in the 3 months before the breakup, individuals focused on “me”-centered posts instead of “us”-centered posts, and they started making more depressive posts than usual.
In fact, it is stated that these depressive shares increase gradually towards separation and increase to such an extent that they can create potential depression and insecurity in individuals. When these increasing shares reach their peak, the couples usually break up and then these depressive posts continue. According to the researchers, users do not do this consciously, and although they want to hide it, they involuntarily reflect the difficulties in their relationships, albeit a little, on social media.
In the research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), it was stated that even users’ social media posts actually tell a lot about their relationships, and that many relationships can be saved if these “signs” are correctly identified.
