Apple’s new iPhone 14 series also included a major innovation. The notch, which has been on iPhones since the iPhone X, disappeared with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Apple has now put its front camera and sensor in the screen hole that has been found in Android phones for years, which it calls ‘Dynamic Island’.

As for how Dynamic Island is possible, new information has arrived today. According to the details quoted by The Elec, Apple requested special innovations from Samsung in manufacturing while transitioning to the dynamic island design. The reason is not to sacrifice durability when moving to the new design.

Apple feared the effects of the hole in the screen:

According to the shared information, Apple asked Samsung to use a higher-level production method for the Dynamic Island due to the hole to be opened on the screen. Apple’s concern was that the screen durability would decrease due to the hole to be found in the screen.

In fact, Samsung has already improved on punching holes in display panels. Because the company has been drilling holes for cameras in all its phones and screens that it sells to third parties in recent years.

But the hole Apple wanted was bigger than any Samsung has made so far. For this reason, Apple suspected that if this pill-shaped hole was damaged, the OLED panel could be exposed to moisture and oxygen.

In order to prevent this situation, Samsung produced a structure that separates the cut part from the OLED panel and acts as a dam.

Apple had requested that a different method be used:

Another request from Apple was cutting equipment to be used in the opening of the hole. Samsung has been making these cuts with a laser until now. However, it turned out that Apple wanted cutting with a different method called ‘inkjet’ instead of laser.

Since Samsung successfully provided the measure we mentioned above, it made the cut with a laser despite Apple’s request.
