Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi China and boss of the Redmi brand, shared some important future-oriented information from his social media account. According to the experienced manager, Xiaomi will no longer produce smartphones with a pop-up front camera.

There was a pop-up front camera on the Xiaomi Mi 9T. It was also offered on the Redmi K20 and K30 Pro (aka Poco F2 Pro). The Chinese company later did not release any other smartphones with this design. He doesn’t plan to take it out anymore.

no longer used

The pop-up front camera mechanism becomes usable only when necessary (for example, when unlocking with a face scan, taking a selfie or video chatting) by popping out of the case. It is not visible when not needed.

The biggest advantage of this design is that there is no need to place a notch or hole on the screen for the front camera. This provides a better viewing experience. Lu Weibing did not explain the reasons for this decision.
