The 56-year-old businessman stated that although everyone’s expectation is that the roads will consist of completely electric cars in the future, there are those who question the issue of switching to purely electric vehicles in the sector.
A silent majority is skeptical about a future of electric-only cars
Speaking to reporters in Thailand, the Toyota president stated that there is a “silent majority” in the automotive industry that questions progress with only electric vehicles, and that he is also included in this. Toyoda emphasized that the best way is to include other technologies.
Saying that the people involved in the industry are the silent majority, the manager said, “This silent majority wonders if electric vehicles are suitable to be the only option. However, they are not voicing their thoughts out loud as this situation is trending at the moment. The correct answer is still not clear, we should not limit ourselves to one option.
Noting that electric vehicles are not the only way to achieve carbon neutral goals, Toyoda also added: “To achieve carbon neutrality, we must remember that carbon, not the powertrain, is the real enemy. Obviously, electric cars aren’t the only way to reach zero carbon targets. At Toyota, we believe in many different carbon-reducing options, from hybrid to all-electric.”
Toyota wants other technologies to be used in addition to purely electric cars

Despite the criticism, the Japanese manufacturer has stated many times that it does not find it right to move forward with only electric cars.
