One of the first brands that come to mind when it comes to classic sports cars, Chevrolet’s Corvette series has a truly tremendous design history. Especially the Corvettes of the 80s and 90s are now cult vehicles.

TFLclassics, a YouTube channel, put the 1988 model Corvette C4 and 1999 model Corvette C5 in a drag race in this context. If you wish, let’s watch the race first, then let’s take a look at the features of the cars.

Corvette C4 1988 vs Corvette C5 1999 facing off:

Under the hood, the Corvette C4 houses a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 245 horsepower (182 kilowatts) and 460 Newton-meters of torque. The Corvette C5, on the other hand, gets 345 horsepower (257 kilowatts) from the 5.7-liter LS1. However, since the torque value of the engine is 474 Newton meters, they are close to the C4.

The most obvious difference between the two cars is their transmission: the C5 has an automatic gearbox, while the C4 has a manual gearbox. The extra power of the C5 is instantly recognizable in the video. As soon as it jumps off the starting line and lacks traction, the C4 lags significantly behind the C5.

C4 failed to close the gap and lost the race by a wide margin. The Corvette C4 finished the 400-meter racetrack in 16.89 seconds at a speed of 143 kilometers per hour, while the C5 took the first place with a speed of 15.24 seconds at a speed of 159.6 kilometers per hour.
