NASA has released new images from the Perseverance rover it launched on July 30, 2020. The vehicle, which landed on Mars’ Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021, has been operating for months. NASA’s science team has their eyes on him, too. Because the rover is searching for signs of ancient life on Mars.

Also, the rover tries to collect samples of rock and regolith (broken rock and soil) to return to Earth. The vehicle, meanwhile, is NASA’s most advanced Mars rover to date. Because there are many camera science vehicles for various missions.

After a short vacation, the US space agency shared new images from Mars. Here’s a time-lapse video of Perseverance…

NASA releases time-lapse image of Perseverance vehicle

A new image shared by NASA on Perseverance’s Twitter account attracted attention. The time-lapse image shared by the space agency shows the rover accelerating on the surface of Mars. But frankly, the rover doesn’t move that fast.

According to the news of Digital Trends, the speed of the NASA Perseverance vehicle is actually quite slow. The rover’s top speed on flat, hard ground is just 4.2 centimeters per second (or 152 meters per hour). In this image, NASA accelerated it by about 200 times, with about 30 seconds between each frame to create the fast motion effect.

When we look at the images released by NASA, we see how the rover roams the Martian terrain. We also understand more clearly that on-board sensors and software are deftly guiding the autonomous vehicle around the cliffs on the planet’s surface.

The image shows the six-wheeled Perseverance rover traveling a distance of 167 meters using AutoNav (automatic navigation technology).

Meanwhile, NASA deliberately disconnected its Mars vehicles, including Perseverance, earlier this month. So this video is intended to show that the interruption has disappeared. Also, the reason for the interruption is a phenomenon we call the Sun conjunction.

During this period, which took place between October 2-14, 2021 this year, Mars was approximately in the same plane with the Sun. This can disrupt the signals NASA will send to its vehicles on Mars. Therefore, the engineers gave Perseverance a short break until normal communication resumed.
