We all have a variety of shoes in our closet. So what do you pay attention to when buying these shoes? Of course, when buying a shoe, we look at which model it is, what material it is made of, its comfort, design and many other parameters. Among them, there is one more thing we should definitely pay attention to: Shoe size.
For all these years we have bought our shoes in a certain size. For example, I wear size 45 shoes. So where does the number “45” come from, since my foot is not 45 cm? Today we will explain to you what the shoe size system is and how you can calculate your own shoe size.
A large part of our country and European countries use a shoe mold measurement unit called “French measurement system (Paris measurement system)”.
Although there are different measurement units in countries such as the USA and England, the unit of measurement we will focus on today will be the French unit of measurement we use.
How are numbers determined in French units of measurement?
Numbers are determined as “punt” in the French measurement unit, which is one of the most used shoe measurement units all over the world. In other words, a person who wears size 45 shoes actually wears 45 punt shoes.
What dimensions does the “punt” mean on shoes produced in the 16-48 punt range?
The “punt” used in the French unit of measurement represents the Paris score. According to this system, 1 point is 2/3 cm. This system, which starts from 0 cm, grows with the calculation of 0.666 cm. In other words, each punt equals 0.666 cm. Due to the small number range, this measurement system does not have half numbers as in the measurement systems in the USA and England.
For example, when you want to calculate the length of a size 45 shoe, you need to do 45 x 2/3 cm. This shows us that a shoe size 45 will have a length of 30 cm.
How do you find your shoe size?
What you need to do to find your exact shoe size is actually very simple. You can do this with just a piece of paper and a pen. Let’s explain.
- First, put a piece of paper under your feet.
- Then, define the boundaries of your feet with the pen you have in your hand. In this process, be careful to use the pen upright.
- Then measure the furthest point of your foot from the heel with a measuring tool. This measurement will generally be from heel to big toe.
- Divide the number in cm you get by 2 first. Then multiply the resulting number by 3. The number you get will be your shoe size.
