Twitter Blue, the premium subscription service offered by Twitter, may soon undergo another significant change. According to the news of The Independent, Twitter Blue memberships made through Twitter’s website will now cost $ 7 per month, and transactions made through the iPhone app will cost $ 11 per month.

Elon Musk has reportedly decided to charge a higher price for Twitter Blue subscriptions made through the iPhone app, with Apple taking a 30% cut in revenue from in-app purchases. The difference in pricing is expected to encourage most customers to sign up for the service online, allowing Twitter to avoid in-app purchase fees.

Twitter isn’t the only company implementing this strategy. Previously, other companies like Spotify also charged higher fees for subscriptions made via the iPhone app than for subscriptions made over the web. However, this often causes confusion among consumers who do not understand why prices vary by device they use. Even so, Apple has no problem with companies charging more for in-app subscriptions than for web.

The proposed change in pricing for Twitter Blue comes a week after Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted that Apple “threatened to withhold Twitter from the App Store but didn’t say why.” In response, Apple CEO Tim Cook invited Musk to the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California for a meeting. According to a later tweet by Musk, the duo had a “good conversation” and resolved the misunderstanding about the possibility of Twitter being removed from the App Store.

In addition to the new pricing model, Twitter Blue will also offer different verification badges for different account types. Corporate Twitter accounts will have a gold check tick, government accounts will have a gray tick, and individual accounts will have a traditional blue tick. However, Elon Musk stated that before any account is given a verification mark, the account will be “verified manually”. It is not yet clear how this identity verification process will take place.
