Apple is expanding developers’ options for pricing App Store apps. The company announced 700 new price points and tools, with the change it describes as the biggest price update in the App Store’s 14-year history. In addition, developers will now be able to automatically adjust regional prices based on exchange rates.

The new structure of the App Store allows developers to choose from 900 price points for their apps, roughly 10 times what was previously available. Pricing now starts at $0.29 and can go up to $10,000 on demand. In addition, app prices can now gradually increase in different ranges. For example, it is now possible to use $0.10 tranches up to $10, or use $0.50 limits between $10 and $50, or increase.

Apple is also adding different pricing rules for all 175 regional stores. Developers can now use two duplicate numbers (such as ₩110,000) and rounded dollar amounts ($10.00 instead of $9.99).

The update also makes it easier for developers to deal with global exchange rates. Apple uses the example of a Japanese game developer who gets most of its business from Japanese customers. They can now set their prices for the Japan store and automatically make global pricing changes based on currency and tax rates. In the past, developers had to do this manually.

Apple says the new pricing structure will be available starting today for apps that offer automatically renewable subscriptions. Spring 2023 is expected for all other apps and in-app purchases.
